This hanukkiah (a candelabra used to celebrate the holiday of Hanukkah), was produced by an organization called Irivah, a division of the Women’s Division of the Jewish Education Committee, founded in 1926 in New York City. Irivah provided scholarships for thousands of Jewish children unable to otherwise receive religious training. the organization also distributed ritual objects to immigrant families who were unaffiliated and had little or no formal Jewish education, so that Jewish holidays could be celebrated and learned about in the home. the Hebrew word Irivah has several meanings, including: from the other side of the river; from the land of Abraham; Israeli Jewess.
