Inspired by this Torah breastplate or shield in the Skirball collection, the artist has incorporated it as an emblem on a flag for the holiday of Simchat Torah. Meaning “rejoicing with the Torah, Simchat Torah celebrates and marks the conclusion of the annual cycle of Torah reading and the beginning of a new cycle.
